Sexual Harassment at Workplace Bill, 2010 Passed


Women workers and employees can breathe easy because their right to lead a dignified life has a legal stamp now. The Union Cabinet has approved the Protection of Women against Sexual Harassment at Workplace Bill, 2010 in the parliament today. The bill intends to provide a legal protection for women against sexual harassment at the workplace, both in public and private sectors.


Women would now be able to register a formal complain against various types of harassment such as

• physical contact
• seeking or demanding sexual favours
• sexual remarks
• showing pornography
• demeaning remarks

The Sexual Harassment at Workplace Bill has a penalty provision which means that the employers will be fined if found not complying and is applicable in all sectors, organized and unorganized.
